So everything is completely different than it was before. I don't think Ray and I took everyone seriously when they told us how hard this would be. The first couple of days home were pretty stressful. Evan was up for like three hours in the middle of the night. So Ray would get up and watch movies with him until he fell asleep. And I was trying to nurse him and he wasn't getting anything. He even lost a full pound when we took him to the pediatrician the day after he was released. And he had a touch of jaundice.
But things are looking up. Evan has slept through the night the last couple of nights. So much so that I've had to wake him up for feedings. So I've managed to get 3-4 hour blocks of sleep and Ray has been able to sleep a lot more because he hasn't had to have movie night with Evan. Although we're a little worried about how tonight is going to go. Usually Evan has two "alert blocks". These are times when his eyes are open and he is awake for like an hour or so. They usually occur once in the morning. Luckily he is a late sleeper. The last couple of mornings he slept in till nine. And then another block is usually from like 7-10 or so. But this morning he didn't get up at nine. He slept most of the morning and then we had a doctors appointment this afternoon. He's doing great by the way. He's gained a full pound back in a week. He's now up to 8.8 lbs, almost back to his original birth weight. And he's jaundice is gone. He has another appointment at 1 month. And he gets his shots at 2 months.
So when we got home this afternoon he woke up and was up for like 2-3 hours. And he was a bit fussy from time to time. It's not like him to be fussy. He's usually pretty easy going. He barely ever cries. He just grunts a lot. Anyway we're worried that since he had a long "alert block" that he's going to want to wake up and hang out in the middle of the night. I hope not though. We don't get enough sleep as it is. We try to fit naps in during the day but I usually have too much to do and Ray has been working like crazy from home this week. So he's sleep deprived too.
