baby name

Okay so I'm sure a lot of people already know, but just incase we missed a few, the baby's name is going to be: Evan Theodore Spencer. His first name is for my maiden name. His middle name is after Ray's dad, Ted.

Week 23 Developments

How your baby's growing:
Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With his sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that he's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see him squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing him for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze him when he hears them outside the womb.

Belly week 22

More Nursery Work

Paula and Bake came up today to help paint the nursery. Well Ray and Bake painted. Paula and I just supervised a lot. They did an amazing job. The nursery looks beautiful. And I put the finishing touches on the guest room that got moved downstairs last weekend. The baby's room is starting to look really good. We went with a light Disney green with a semi-gloss finish so we can wipe down the walls when we need to. Oh and we've picked the baby's name. But for anyone who doesn't know yet, you'll have to wait a week to find out. Okay so here's the part you're waiting for:

How your baby's growing:
At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is
approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may
soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering
movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also
discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In
other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now

Retraction (Still 21 Weeks)

Okay so we saw the doctor. I've gained 20lbs so far. She said everything is good with the baby and apparently being dizzy and have numb hands at night when you sleep are normal pregnancy symptoms.
She kept our original due date though. So it's back to March 25th. She said that the baby's measurements now aren't very accurate and as long as the new date is within two weeks they don't change the original date. So I'm back to 21 weeks. Oh and there's a very slight posssibility that I might have a low lying placenta. All that means is that my placenta looks like it might be within two centimeters of my cervix. But she doesn't think so. However she wants us to have another ultrasound at 32 weeks. If this is the case the only out come would be that I'd have to have a c-section. Which isn't a big deal. And we'll have more pictures of the baby before he's born.

Week 23 Developments

So since the ultrasound tech gave us a new due date of March 14th, that means that Baby Spencer is a little older than we thought. So instead of 21 weeks, he's 23. So here's the scoop.

Oh and I have been having a few minor issues that I assume are related to the pregnancy. The first is that I've gotten dizzy a few times and my blood sugar was low. I read in my book that it's pretty normal and to carry snacks for when this happens. Which I figured but I'm going to mention it to the doctor just to be safe since I already have slight insulin problems.
The second more disturbing issue is that my right hand has been going numb a lot while I'm asleep. I pretty much sleep on my left side so my hand shouldn't be going numb and it seems to take a while for the numbness to wear off. It's a little disconcerting. So I figured I'd mention that too since it seems like a strange symptom.
We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. So we'll see if the doctor has anything to tell us about the baby.
Also the baby has been moving around alot. Today he kicked me three times. Each one was harder than the next like he was trying to get my attention. I told him I knew he was there. Actually he kicking me as I'm writing this.
My mom bought us a crib. It's a beautiful cherry sleigh bed. Very classy. Ray and I spent half of the day on Saturday running around trying to match a dresser and changing table to the crib. They were hard to find but we got a nice set for the baby's room. My parents are coming up this weekend to help put the furniture together and I think Ray's mom is painting the nursery with us next week or so.
We're getting excited, not that we haven't been the whole time. But everything is coming together. We'll have a real little boy soon.

Week 20 Developments

See the big picture
How your baby's growing:
Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)

He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

Incase I missed anyone, We're having a BOY!
He's doing great. A little handful. And extrememly active. Our due date has changed. Our little bundle of joy is now due March 14, 2009. I'll put up the ultra sound pictures tomorrow. I'm tired tonight. We've been on the phone for the last couple of hours.

8 point earth quake

So yesterday Ray and I ate a decent amount of Halloween candy and watched a Tru Blood marathon on tv. Apparently the baby was on a sugar high. It was moving around like crazy. And at one point it felt like it did a summersalt. I kept putting Ray's hand on my stomach but he couldn't feel anything. If the baby keeps moving as strongly as it has been the last couple of days Ray will probably be able to feel it soon.
