Grace is such a cranky baby. She just screamed for the last hour. So it took Ev an hour to go to bed. We still don't know what she was so mad about. We've all had a stomach bug so I took her to the doctor just to make sure she wasn't sick too. She's been spitting up a lot lately. We are also worried about how well she's growing. The doctor said she's not sick and that she's doing great. She's up to 11 lbs 9 oz and she's in the 95th percentile. Ray read on line that colic usually gets better around three months. We're crossing our fingers it goes away sooner.

Ev has slept in his bed the last two nights. He gets up and I take him back. He lays down and doesn't get out of bed. And he sleeps in his bed the rest of the night. I really think the way we put him to bed at night is helping. Today I put him down for a nap and sat outside the door. He didn't even get out of bed once. He's doing so good! Grace is sleeping about six hours or more at night. She still gets cranky but it's earlier I the day.

Grace is doing good. She's sleeping 4-5 hours at night and she generally goes back to sleep after eating. She's starting to stay up more during the day. She was up from 2-4:30 this afternoon and then from 7-9:30. Although she's cranky a lot of the time when she's awake for some reason. The swing seems to make her happy enough to pass out again when nothing else works. Ev is doing great about bed time. Where trying to get him to where we can put him to bed and leave. We put him down without rocking him in the chair and sit outside the door. He's progressed to where he will get out of bed, come to the door and check to make sure we're there and then go get back in bed by himself. Sometimes he does that a few times but he's going to bed a lot quicker. It takes about 10 min at nap time and it took him about 15 min tonight. Lately it's been taking ray anywhere from 35 min to an hour sometimes to get ev to settle down enough to go to sleep. He still comes into our room at night but I'm hoping going to bed by himself will encourage him sleeping in his bed all night. One thing at a time though.

Having a newborn and a toddler is hard. Poor Evan doesn't get picked up as often as he would like. Poor guy. He does try to give her a bottle but he also seems to think the milk is for him sometimes. He also cries through diaper time a lot and he doesn't want to stay in his highchair long enough to get cleaned up. He actually managed to get out and stand up tonight. And bed time has reverted a bit. Lately we have to sit and lay over the edge of his bed so he stay in there and lay down. But it's all an adjustment period. We just have to remember to be patient.

Things might be turning around. Grace slept in between feedings last night and she was up from 6-8 this morning. She's sleeping now but a bit cranky. Maybe she's switching her nights and days. So far she sleeps till about 2 am and then wants to hang out till 6. Oh and her umbilical cord came off. She'll be easier to clean, dress and diaper now.

Time for crazy chapter two
So Evan was fine just dehydrated. We came home, he was a lot better. The next morning we got up and I fed him breakfast. I was having contractions the whole time they were under five minutes. But I waited and they spread out to like 20 minutes apart. They picked up again a bit later and then spread out to like 10 minutes. Ray said we could go in and get checked out. I gave it a bit longer. The contractions got pretty intense though and I couldn't stand it any longer. So we packed a bag, left Ev with Paula & my dad, and headed to the hospital with my mom.
When we got there the did a ck and i was 3-4cm and 70% effaced already. They admitted me and started the epidural. I was really afraid that it was going to hurt since the one with Evan kept hitting my nerve. It went in fine though. The IV was worse than the epidural.
So I started feeling better. They decided to break my water and start me on potosin since I wasn't changing much. I went to 5-6 cm fairly quickly. Then probably within an hour I started feeling pretty constant pressure on one side. I told them to ck me again because I was pretty sure I was at 10. They said I was 10 and 100% effaced. They went to talk to the dr on call. He was in an emergency down the hall and they wanted to make sure he would be ready when I was. They probably only took about five minutes but I told ray they really needed to hurry because Grace was coming now. We decided to let my mom and Katie in because they were so excited.
Oh meanwhile lins and Sean went to the emergency room because they thought he had a spider bite that looked pretty bad.
So the doctor came in and we got to work. It took seven contractions and thirteen minutes and Grace was here by 4:43p. She's healthy and beautiful. She weighed 9 lbs and 2 oz. She is 20 3/4 in long. She didn't cry but I did, out of happiness.
We had Ted, Donna, Will, and Robin meet come in and meet Grace. Then they headed up to watch Grace get her shot and bath.
They took us to our room and we hung out and watched tv while we waited. Katie, Will and robin came up to visit and snack on Red Robin. They brought her in and we started getting to know our daughter.
Lins and Sean stopped by later to see Grace. Then went back to their room. They ended up being admitted and had to stay till Tuesday.
So the next day mom and dad stopped by and Paula brought Evan up to meet Grace. Evan didn't pay much attention to her. He was more interested in waking around in his snow boots holding the remote. So Paula took Ev back for his nap, dad went home, and mom stayed to visit with us and take Piper to see Lins.
So Will, Katie, and robin brought us lunch. After awhile Paula called and said that she was sick and had thrown up. She said that she was ok to take care of evan though. Then a little bit later she called back and said that she need someone to come take over for her because she was feeling worse. My mom was on her way back from seeing Lins and was going to head over. While we were waiting Paula called again and said that she was going to pass out and needed someone now. We were 20min away from the house so I started freaking out a little. Ray and will took off right away and I called my friend Devin across the street to go over and get Evan. Paula was really worried and called an ambulance. They ck her out and said she would be ok. But she went to the hospital with them. So will and ray stayed until my mom and Katie could get there to stay with Evan. So ray came back to be with Grace and I.
The next day we got released and went home. Piper had thrown up that morning so my mom left to get Lins and Sean and head home before we got back. The first day went good. Ray and Katie even took Ev to the mall. Grace and I stayed home and relaxed. I tried to pick up a little since Christmas was still all over the house but Grace was fussy and kept wanting to eat. The next day things were better. Katie helped out and we took the kids to the pediatrician. Grace looked a bit jaundiced so Ray took Ev home for a late nap and I took Grace to the blood place.
The test came back fine.
That night was pretty rough though. Grace was pretty fussy all night and was up from 11-4. I was breast feeding only and she seem hungry all the time. Ev came to bed close to four and we decided to breakout the formula for Grace. She went to sleep and we were able to get two hours sleep.
The next day Katie left for her retreat. Things were going ok. Ray's mom wanted to get her car so ray started loading her stuff into it. He stepped out the side door and his foot gave out. It went under him and he fell on it. He started rolling on the ground yelling obscenities. I could't figure out what was going on. He sat up and tried to stand but he couldn't put any pressure on his foot. He made his way to The door way and sat down and said somethings wrong with my foot. He pulled his sock and shoe off and he had a huge purplish bump under his left ankle.
We called will and he came up and took Ray to the urgent care. It turns out he broke his cuboid bone in his foot. The said he had to wait for the swelling to go down before he gets a cast. He sees the orthopedist tomorrow.
He's out of commission though until then so I called my mom that day to come up and help. On Friday morning my mom woke up and was sick until about 9am. She didn't have a fever though so once she felt better she came upstairs and helped out. Around 11 the tornado siren went off. I didn't hear it at first but when I did I looked out the front door. They ck it the first Monday of every month but it wasn't Monday. We looked at the weather and it said that a tornado producing storm was expected in our area around noon. That's Evan's nap time. So we took him downstairs and fed him lunch on the couch. When he was finished I laid down with him in the guest bed.
We'd been in there a couple of minutes when all the sudden ray started throwing up in the other room. Ev said "dada?" I told him it was ok and to go to sleep. He fell asleep pretty quick and I snuck out and checked on ray. The storm passed and we took ev up to his bed and Grace upstairs to eat. Ray slept downstairs for a few hours. He got sick again. So he stayed down there until he felt better around five. He came upstairs and got sick one more time before his stomach settled down. We went to bed early that night. Ray was better yesterday but had a headache all day and was still nauseous. He's much better today. Still a bit queasy today but things are looking up.
Grace's jaundice looks to be gone and Evan is getting used to Grace. He also thinks her bassinet is fun to rock and a good place to store his toys till he needs them again. He calls her Bace. We thinks it's a mixture of baby and Grace. Because he also says that too. So far he seems to mostly sleep through her nightly screams even in our bed. I'm having a little trouble making myself get out of bed. Ev started sleeping 6 hours at a month and a half. I'm crossing my fingers that she will too. So far she sleeps about three hours in between day time feedings and four hours at night. She drinks about three ounces at a time now. She poops all the time though. It's better than not I guess. She has a ped apt this week for a weight ck.
My mom is going home tomorrow and Ted is coming up for a few days and maybe Donna later in the week. We are extremely fortunate to have such a caring family. We appreciate you all immensely! Thank you so much!
